creative ways to use the crescent roll
June 15, 2009
One of the most versatile and convenient foods is that of the flaky and tender crescent roll. This humble dough is versatile enough to work as an appetizer, entree, and a dessert and they are kid-friendly as well. They are also fast, convenient, and virtually fool proof.
Once you buy the refrigerated dough and unroll it, the possibilities are endless. First create a square by pressing two triangles together by hand to form one rectangular piece of dough. Then place some filling on the rectangle along one of the edges leaving a blank dough border with no filling on the other half so you can fold the dough over the filling and seal with a fork or your fingers. Place on a greased baking sheet and bake filled pockets for 15 minutes at 375 degrees.
Fill with your favorite sandwich fillings. Turkey and cheese with your favorite dressing or spread. Use peperoni, some cheese, and alittle pizza sauce for pizza pockets. Turn leftover scrambled eggs and sausage in to breakfast fillings. Mix some cream cheese with your favorite pie filling to make a dessert pocket. The possibilities are endless and as varied as your imagination.
So the next time you need something versatile and a staple in your fridge for a quick fix think of the crescent roll.
